How is/will Discipline Be Done For Your Family?

On a serious note , my SO and I both grew up in Pro-Whoopings Families  , lol . I was only whooped with a hand or a belt . Once I was whooped by a board , but honestly , I deserved that . But , my SO on the other hand , received whooping from what ever his mom could find . That was anywhere from a shoe , to a belt , to an extension cord . 
And to say he got the worse out of the whoopings than me , he still wants to whoop our children . I , personally , don't want to result to whooping . I want to be able to redirect or endorse in other ways . 
A big punishment that helped me was taking everything I had . I was the only child and I was a bit more privelleged than my SO . Therefore , my parents took things like my tv , my phone , my shoes (I was a sneaker-head growing up) , or I wouldn't be able to play in the game that week , but I would still have to go and watch . That was the worst punishment yet!!! His parents didn't even try the take away method , lol . But , what do you guys think? How will you to how do you disciple your children ? Does it work ? Or did it work for someone you knew ? I'm curious , just because this is a weekly if not daily topic for my SO's and I pillow talk . I want to be able to present him with other ideas just to see if he would try any before going to the whooping method .

I've worked with kids for the about 15 years and I've never laid a hand on any of them and I've been able to discipline them and teach them right and wrong. We are always able to tell the kids that are spanked because they are the kids that hit other kids when they are upset instead of working it out. I'll never spank my own kids because I see no need. I can discipline them in a healthy way.

We don't hit or spank our children and we were both physically disciplined as children. You CAN break the cycle.

I have 3 boys. My oldest just turned 5 last week. We take the time to teach consequences to actions. It's not enough to say "don't run in the street." I tell them why. I don't just want them to listen when I'm looking. I've literally never had to explain why more than once because they understand why the street if off limits. Then if they HAD to cross the road, they also know how to check for traffic and understand WHY to be careful. We live in a busy city that we walk in often and love. They need to understand how to be safe.

This is just an easy example of teaching real consequences to their actions. When you take the time to explain why, often punishment is avoided. Tiny humans don't need to be treated as baby's. They are smart enough to understand if you are willing to teach them. When they push beyond the boundaries they've drawn, which they do, then it's time for timeouts or privileges taken away or housework and additional chores provided depending on the age and the infraction.

To discipline is to teach. I chose to teach my boys how to be healthy well adjusted adults, not scare them into submission.

I believe you should do whatever feels best for your child. If you wanna spank, do it. If not, more power to you! Don't let people judge you for how you raise your child.

When I have kids I plan to do warnings first, then time out, then taking things from them. If that doesn't work, one , open handed light tap on their bottom until they are like 6 probably. After that it's being grounded, or having to do extra chores around the house.

I think different kids merit different disciplines. Our son is autistic, so popping his ass doesn't accomplish anything. I very much think you have to do what works for your family.

Well.. If I had children I'll just teach discipline and courtesy and respect. And I would never hit him if its not necesary. I'll dialogue everything. Of course I will have my rules and they have to follow them.

But if at some point I have to hit him like give him a whoop in the bum😂, I don't hit him with an object. Or I don't hit him at all.

I just take the thing that he likes the most. Fro example if he has an ipod, Xbox or anything that he likes, ill just go, without him knowing and take the console, games and everything and hide it very well. And for at least one to two weeks he won't play and will have to clean his rooms and help me with the dishes and stuff.

That's how my mother disciplines me. She only gave me a whooping and it was only with two fingers and she tapped me on my mouth. You think its nothing but you get a tingling sesation thats almost like a whooping.

Anyway, That's like literally the last time she used physical contact to correct me. She just took my phone ipod and laptops for a week when I was young.

Now that I'm a teenager, she takes it for a month or she take the phone and cancel its service. So I just follow the rules and I stay with my phone😂

I do whatever works at that specific time for my adhd 7yo. It can be anywhere from taking things away to giving him a smack. It's whatever works that day cuz the same thing doesn't work for everything.

I'm getting on the behind. I will warm you first. After 3 times, it's clearly your just being disobedient and doing what you want and then I will spank you. Depends on what it is though. I may just pop your hands just to let you know I mean business. But as they get older, it's the booty that's gonna get it. I was raised getting whoopings and I turned out very well if I do say so myself. Looking back. I'm thankful for them. When I look back at my classmates or friends who parents let them do anything and everything without any consequences , they are not doing too well these days. So I'm grateful for my parents and the discipline they gave me.
