If you owned a taxi would you give a stranger who was in labour a lift to the hospital?

This was a story on the local news- a woman gave birth in a taxi on the way to the hospital. As great as the story is, we were discussing at work how the taxi driver wouldn't have been able to work for the rest of the day due to the mess in his car and would have lost wages because of this, not to mention to cost of having it properly cleaned. I'm not sure why she chose to call a taxi instead of an ambulance. The fact a taxi isn't medically trained would worry me. 
So what would you do taking everything into consideration? Would you agree to give them a lift or not?

Personally I wouldn't give a lift, I'd tell them to call an ambulance. I wouldn't be medically trained, the ambulance could get there quicker, it would panic me whilst trying to drive and concentrate on the road so more likely to crash, I would have no idea what to do and I think it's putting mum and baby at risk. As well as the fact my taxi would be stinking, it would cost me to clean it and I'd lose wages for that day which I couldn't afford to do.

This depends on where you live. Where I am, and ambulance would be faster. But in downtown New York City you can find a taxi on every street corner but an ambulance can take a while due to all the traffic. Also an ambulance ride costs upwards of $1000 whereas a taxi ride is like $20. So if I lived within a few miles of the hospital I'd probably take my chances with the taxi and save myself some money.

I doubt the woman knew she would give birth in the car. Labor 'usually' lasts hours. She probably thought she had plenty of time to get to the hospital

I love doing deliveries and even since school , I have hoped to run into this situation  myself .  I cry like a baby every time I see a birth too💟  (I also had hoped they didn't  want the baby too and said hey, here, adopt my baby  🙈 lol)

I would in a heartbeat. Birth can be life or death for the mother and/or the child and In would never be able to let a fellow woman down when she needs aid.

I think the taxi ride story is very situational. Did she call the taxi or was she out and was by a taxi when she went into labor? It's usually very rare for labor to be so quick that she wouldn't make a taxi ride so maybe it was a freak thing? I know that there in America, not only is an ambulance ride at least $500, but if it's a busy day for paramedics you can get told by the 911 operator that the ambulance can't even be there for like 20 minutes unless it's legit someone is dying.

But besides all that, I think the feeling I would get knowing that the woman successfully gave birth and she is alive and well and the baby is alive and well would be 1000% worth what I would lose money wise.

I'm pretty sure if you roll up and see a pregnant lady then take off it could be classified as discrimination. As long as they get your taxi info.

For starters I would never own a taxi because I hate driving lol

But I would help, i would feel like an awful person if I drove to her and was like nope! Then drove off. Plus I highly doubt she thought she would give birth then and there , labor usually lasts hours!

Labour isn't usually like you see in the movies. Lots of women who live in large cities would use a taxi to transport to the hospital during a normally progessing labour. There's no reason to believe the vehicle will be messed or the driver will end up delivering her baby.

If I could make it to the hospital in time then I would. But like you, I'd be worried about my lack of medical knowledge. An ambulance would be safer for sure
