Prodomal contractions? Amniotic Fluid?

Two questions ladies.... I'm 38 weeks and 3 days

1) what are prodomal contractions? I heard they are like BH but they are consistent but not intense enough to be labor contractions. Have you guys experienced this? For how long too? I'm on day 2 of these if that's what they are....

I don't think it's labor because they are getting more intense or closer together in time.

2) amniotic fluid.... Does it have an odor? Can you tell that's what it is. When I've been going to the bathroom and I wipe I see a discharge substance. Slightly thicker and it has a slight odor... Like a discharge odor. I don't think I'm leaking any fluid because it's not consistent or uncontrollable. I know my doctor said if it's fluid leaking then its uncontrollable and consistent. Like a steady stream.

I've been having prodromal contractions since Monday night :/ my midwife said they can start a day before labor or a week or more unfortunately. The good thing about them is they actually help your cervix efface and dilate vs Braxton hicks which do nothing for your cervix.

Is the discharge kind of snotty looking? If so, it could be some of your mucus plug. If you think you are leaking amniotic fluid, put a pad on, lay down for about 30 minutes or so on your side, and when you stand up see if the pad is wet.
I've been having contractions, about 5-30 minutes apart for 3 days now. Went into L&D thinking I was in active labor, but they sent me home saying I was in early labor because the contractions weren't strong and my cervix wasn't changing.

If your contractions are not painful then I'd say no labor! You will know when to go in because the contractions become closer together & painful! As for your second question it sounds like it's your mucus plug coming out in pieces which is common!
