Metformin???

Question

Has anyone taken this?? My MD gave me this Rx but I'm really nervous about taking it, the possible side effects sounded serious. DH and I are going on two years ttc but I'm not crazy about taking medications. Any help or info would be much appreciated!!!

Ive been on it for just under 30 days now and soo far the first 2 weeks I had nausea and upset stomach. Felt like every time I ate my body was just rejecting the food. I got my period 11 days ago and am still me straying! The first 7 days of my period was just spotting and then it got heavier, I'm still on it for 11 days and not sure when it is going to end. I usually only menstrate for 5 days so this is very unusual and I think a reaction to the metformin. Good lucky to you....hoping it helps you and you don't have he same symptoms.

I'm on metformin for type 2 diabetes. It was what helped me conceive also & have been in it plus insulin while pregnant. If ur sugar is high it's better than the alternatives of high blood sugar.

I agree with what everyone is saying. The diarrhea and nausea was annoying but it went away. And always take it with food! 
I got pregnant on metformin, Femara, and an IUI. I continued the metformin until I was 12 weeks.

It's a tough drug to start! It will take your body a while to get used to it...I had nausea and bad diarrhea for about 6 weeks when I started it, but stick with it! The symptoms DO go away and it does get better. It helped me lose weight and regulate my periods and I was able to conceive naturally! Good luck! You can do it! Oh...don't take it on an empty stomach I found if I took it after I ate it didn't upset my stomach!

I also avoid meds whenever possible.  As I have PCOS I was given metformin (1000mg a day).  The side effects are a bit exhausting (nausea, bloat, diarrhea, etc) BUT my cycles evened out (from 6 months to ever 32 days).  It allowed me to successfully use a few other fertility meds (clomid, Follistim and Lupron) to get pregnant on our first IUI attempt.

Other friends ONLY needed metformin.

I was on this for a year before I got pregnant and yes, i had diarrhea in the beginning but then my body got used to it. It really is a good medicine, eapecially for women with pcos! It regulated my periods, helped me lose weight along with a low carb diet and i believe it helped me concieve naturally as well! I also continued to take it until i was 18 weeks pregnant as it aids in preventing miscarriage. I will be 25 weeks on Monday. I also plan to go back on it after my baby arrives.
