Opinions?!
My now ex boyfriend (father) decided to put my childs car seat just like this.. This car seat is only meant for a base... can I have opinions on how effing unsafe this is or am I just a crazy mother

The car seat has the little parts (where the seat built is tucked into it) to be hooked to a seatbelt. He's doing nothing wrong. The car seat allots for it to be hooked in like this.

Idk about your car seat, but mine lets me do this without the base. 
I of course use the base but I had to do the lap belt once because my husband had the base in his car & was at work and right now we only have one base.

I have this same car seat. This is the way it's supposed to be strapped in. Any car that is older than a 2000 doesn't have anchors for the base. How are they supposed to use a car seat if there isn't an alternative to the base?

Some car seats are able to be strapped in like that when you don't have the base. Obviously it's not meant for an everyday thing.

Some car seats allow to be fastened without a base. I have an uppababy Mesa and can buckle it in without a base. Check to see if you can do that with your car seat. If not, then I'd agree it's unsafe.

This carseat clearly has the slots for the seat belt to go through. You can see them both in the picture. I used my screen write to point them out. This is perfectly safe. Seat belts normally don't have two huge black bumps on them so you can tell those are definitely the seat belt slots.

It's not unsafe if he did it correctly... Not all seats "require" a base... The point of the base is to make the margin of error smaller. But you definitely aren't freaking out per se because most people actually don't install a seat correctly with out it... Don't freak and push him away just explain that it's just not as safe as using the base

A lot of car seats have slots to be belted in the way he did. If that isn't one, it's just a learning opportunity. Be sure to allow for a learning curve with him even though you guys aren't on good terms. Babies don't come with a manual. He probably didn't know that seat wasn't meant to be put in like that.

Actually, we just went to the police department to have them check that our car seat installation was appropriate.  Though the base is definitely optimal, they also showed us how to secure the car seat without a base.  This should only be used in an emergency type situation (for instance, you have to unexpectedly take a cab).  But in the state of CA at least, it is legal.
