"My boyfriend/girlfriend said no"

Does anyone else think that this sounds awful? Like I have a partner who I listen to and all of that but do you agree with listening to everything due to 'respect' to me it sounds controlling and annoying. There's like a limit of respect. If they control what you're consuming or where you're going or who you're seeing it's a bit OTT anyone agree?
