Period and infection 😓

I think I have a yeast infection, and my period is starting today! This is only my second yeast infection so I really don't know much about them. I am miserable right now! I've read that you shouldn't wear tampons when you have a YI, which is understandable- plus it sounds painful. Any tips of making this less traumatic and helping ease the pain? Thanks 😩
