How do you know you want to spend the rest of your life with him?

Me and my boyfriend have been together for 6 years... We were doing long d at the beginning and we moved in together 3 years ago. He comes home every weekend. Until recently he is now living at home full time.  We also got engaged 8 months ago. I'm having doubts. How did you know you want to spend the rest of your life with your man? He has always been a very quiet and passive man, and I find that I'm doing most of the planning of our vacations, weekends etc and I'm getting tired.  I'm starting to have doubts about whether this is the life I want and if he's the man I want to be with for the rest of my life.

For me, "the one" was the one guy I never had to ask myself this question about.
I'd loved before, I'd hoped for a future before but with my lifelong partner I just knew. It just worked. We both put in effort, but it felt effortless. We're equals together. That was really important to me. We're a team.

For me, my now husband had all the qualities- kind, loyal, friendly, fun, patient, easy going, hard working etc. The moment I knew I wanted to marry him: I took his 8yo dog for a run (his best mate!) and she chewed a gumnut (jack Russell, she does this all the time).  It got stuck in her throat and had to go to the animal hospital as she was in pain and distress.  We got told by the vet to say goodbyes as the procedure to remove it is risky for small dogs.  On some level I blamed myself and expected him to be angry.  We cried, and he held me and said we will get through this together.  He included me in everything with her- saying goodbye, waiting for that phone call, visiting her when she survived.  We grew stronger from the incident, and I just knew no matter what life would throw at us, we would always be a team.  
PS the dog is still going strong at 10 years running 5kms but we now get her to carry a small ball in her mouth!

Extremely cliché.. but you do just know. Does he irritate the hell out of me? Yes! Was I absolutely terrified the morning of my wedding? Yes! Have we nearly broken up before? Yes! But would I be able to live without the bloke? Hell no!!

If you doubt it then there is something wrong with it. I cant tell you how you will know but from what you said it seems like he isnt what you want to spend your life with. That is totally okay. You're not bound to him and just bc you are together for so long it doesnt mean you cant break up. Talk to your partner. Dont get into marrige if you're unsure of your feelings. :) Good luck!
