Maternity Leave

Mallory
In April of this year my husband and I decided it was time to start trying to build our family.  I'm 30 and he is 28. In June I found out that my company planned to sale my location. A new company is taking over in September. I'm so thrilled the new company plans to keep me and my staff. But it hit me like a ton of bricks when I really started to research maternity leave. My old company gave you maternity leave after six months of working with them (I had worked there 5 years) and paid you 60% of your salary. I was provided some general information about the new companies benefits but absolutely no mention of maternity leave. I wouldn't qualify for FMLA until I've worked for the company for a year. I'm concerned that if I do have to take unpaid maturnity leave that my husband and I would struggle financially. While my husband makes decent money, I am the breadwinner. We have recently had to move his father in with us because of his financial situation and an illness. I must have my job security and it would be preferable that I get paid at least a portion of my salary. But unfortunately in the country we live in that isn't always possible. I've focused my whole twenties on building my career and I've waited to have a child. I feel as if I'm getting punished for wanting to start a family. As I write this I am in tears because I'm suppose to start my period any day now and all I truly want is to have a positive test.
