What are sew in extensions like?

So I cut my hair really short and I hate it so much (due to chemical damage) I have clip in hair extensions but they're such a hassle to be putting on every single day. I've had micro bead extensions and HATED it, it felt too bulky. I have Caucasian hair so it's kind of thin, will this work out in my hair? What are sew ins like? :)
