Baby drinking water?

Have any of you ladies started giving your baby water?  If so how did you introduce it?

There is NOTHING wrong with giving a baby water. Every living thing needs water. I've been giving my son water since he was a couple months old. To rinse his mouth, or help him poop. I only use nursery water though

We put a little at the end of a straw and she opens her mouth for it like a bird. Lol. She loves cold water!

We started here and there with a sippy cup. Our pediatrician said no more than 4oz a day. I don't even think she has had a full oz yet. She's still learning how to use the cup

Babies 6 months and above can have water and it helps with digestion of solids. I give my son filtered water through a sippy cup (we use the munchkin 360 cup) during meals and when we are outside in hot weather. Just don't give him too much close to milk feeding times because babies feel full by volume and he/she may not drink as much water as a result. Between 2-6 ounces per day of water is fine.

If you are EBF I would be careful. I tried giving my baby water (about 1 oz) and it caused her to have major explosions every day! I would pick her up from daycare and she would be in a different outfit and they said it was everywhere! Breastmilk is mostly water and your baby should be ok. But if you are using formula or supplementing with formula or notice that your baby is constipated then yes. But doc said no more than 4 oz to prevent water intoxication.

Yeah, my LO been having water here and there for a long time. We've just started him drinking from a sippy cup. He's 6 months. I still boil all his water on the stove for 5 minutes, just to purify it.

Define baby? Babies shouldn't be given water bc you can easily over hydrate them because they're so little! If your baby is breastfed they don't need water-your milk is primarily liquid. If they're formula fed they still don't need water bc it's in the formula but if they're constipated you can give them a tiny bit of pear juice. I'd talk to your dr about guidelines but water for babies is not something I'd focus on

I give her a training soppy cup full of water (so it's easy to learn to tip and sip) but she probably has a couple oz a day. I started introducing it once we started some solids (6 months) As for everyone freaking. Out about water being good or bad. PLEASE google it! It says that it is not recommended for babies until they start solids, not going all into depth about the articles I've read. But please go read up and educate yourself. My baby is EBF and did not start solids until she was 6 months. The water I give her is only to help avoid constipation.

Related question: I'm exclusively breastfeeding (after having to exclusively pump and bottle feed from 7-17 weeks) if I'm planning to breastfeed for as long as he wants to continue, and am not planning on giving him water or juice, is it important that I still start giving him a sippy cup? At what age?
