Parents who ask for their toddlers option on decisions?

Now I'm talking about asking a 3 or 4 year old what they want to do? I'm not talking about asking them about what they want to do eg. You're at the doctors and there's a long wait and you turn to your 4 year old and ask them if they want to wait to see the doctor or come back another day? Like really? I can't help but roll my eyes at situations like this, you're the adult, if they need a doctor, you should be the one to make that decision not ask them if they think they're medical issue can wait or not. They don't know any better.

I think it's quite important for toddlers to feel like they have some choices/control/independence, but in a pretty narrow framework and appropriate situations - like choosing what to wear in the morning but the choices are two options which have been preselected by the parent,  or choosing which of two options they'd like for lunch. Small things really that don't make a difference in the grand scheme of things but do help their development and reduce their frustrations.  Whether or not to see the doctor isn't something I'd let a small child decide on.

Certain situations like medical reasons doesn't rely solely on what the kids wanna do. But I do think it's important to make them feel like their feelings and thoughts matter in other situations

Did you consider she was simply so used to talking to her toddler that it was a reflex? I do it. Like having a one sided conversation with myself.

What he wants to eat, play with, dress in, etc, yes. My youngest is 3 and perfectly capable of making his own choices within reason. Now if he asks for ice cream for breakfast, I have been known to give in because who wouldn't want that for breakfast lol Especially Oreo ice cream... And we've had pizza for breakfast because we can.

Isn't that the point of being a parent? There are plenty of "parents" who don't want to parent... it's much easier for a ipad or "telescreen" to watch your child then to parent them. I see so many young children zombied out on technology at parks, markets, etc... I'm just thinking, we're they just to lazy to teach their kid what an apple was? O.o

I ask my kids opinions, and give them choices. But age appropriate I would never let them decided if they needed to see a dr or something of that nature, like u have a 103 fever do you want to take Tylenol or wait it out? Like no that doesn't happen! But he gets to decide what he wants to eat for dinner (some days), or where he would rather go for the day, like normal stuff a kid would be able to comprehend.

When I was about 4 I wasn't losing this one baby tooth. It was loose but it wouldn't come out. The dentist we had wanted to pull it. My mom asked me my opinion and of course I was like "Bish you must be crazy" (not in those words but you get the point). Anyway my mom took me to a second opinion and that dentist said there was something wrong with my tooth and if they had pulled it I would have suffered nerve damage. Listen to your kids guys because it's their body and even though they are young they can still understand decisions. Also because asking their opinion shows respect which they will reciprocate and also allows them to realize the repricussions of making decisions allowing them to become fully functioning adults when they get older.

I think it's important to instill a sense of independence and autonomy from a young age. I'd never let a toddler make major decisions but I let my girls make small decisions - do you want to wear the yellow shirt or the pink one? Carrots or peas for a snack? The key is not giving them too many options.
