Virginity questions.

Okay so long story short I slept with a guy but the sex was so painful that I made him stop before he could go all the way in. Basically just the tip was inside. He said it didn't count as losing my virginity because it didn't go all the way in. I don't know what to think. Should I tell other guys I'm with that I'm still a virgin since I didn't actually have a penis inside me or should I say I'm not a virgin. I've tried to finger myself but it just hurts to bad. I'm worried if I tell guys I'm not a virgin they won't believe me because I'm in pain. Sorry for the rambling I'm just really confused.
