food for thought from a 16 year old
At the age of 16 almost 17 I have leaned many things not all are valuable. One of my most recent discoveries. Is that you are expected to have a job at this age keep up your grades drive a car and be involved with extra curricular activities. I recently have gotten a job. My happiness does not matter. Because we are taught to just suck it up and deal with it. Because in the end money is more important than mental health and happiness. I don't know if i'm miserable because of my job or that i'm just growing up and i'm not used to working going to school and homework. I've been told I have it easy. I'm being guilted into thinking i'm just being a wimp. Or in other words a bitch. Point blank I am miserable. I am unlike most teenagers. I for one enjoy family events. Such as cookouts going to the state fair etc. I have to miss these said things due to work. I get told i'm making good money and I work a second shift only three days a week. But who am I to say. Adults know everything they complain about having an 8-12hour work day. 5 days a week. Well let me put my hours in. I wake up at 6:30. School begins at 8:15 and goes to 3:00 that is already seven hours. Then I have one hour before work begins I spend that time doing a little bit of homework. By 4 I am at work and do not leave until 10 pm I have already had a 14 hour day. But it doesn't end there. I still have to do home work and study. And shower and eat. On good nights I get to bed around 1:30am and my cycle starts the next day which is a Friday. Now on Monday and Tuesday I focus only on homework and get to bed around 10 those are the good days Wednesday I have extra Curricular actives until 6. Then homework I get to bed around 11 still good. I'm aware I don't have many bills to pay yet and adults have stress too but. Us teens still have a lot to do. I don't enjoy being called ungrateful when I don't even have time to talk to my friends anymore because Saturday's and Friday's don't exist anymore for me. And I know some adults will come back at this saying I have it easy. Yeah to you maybe but for me I see it as one day waking up and everything has changed. Money is now better than happiness. Sleep is more like a gift. Having to be reminded to eat because you don't have the time to eat. So please tell me what is so great and easy about my life as a 16 year old
