Mucus plug

I'm so anxious about labor starting. This is my first full term pregnancy I'm so nervous I'm not going to know when I loose my plug. Will you loose the plug before your water breaks and then will contractions increase? I've only had small contractions so far, but since last night my stomach has been as hard as a rock. I'm so ready for my princess to be here. We are 38 weeks today!!!
