my birth story

Kayla
My due date was sept 2nd and I had my little one on aug 25th. I was 38 weeks 6 days. There was a huge storm that knocked out all of the electricity in my town and of course, once my fans switched off it woke me up. I stood up out of bed and my water broke. It took me a couple of minutes to fully grasp what had happened because I never thought I would get lucky enough for my water to break like it does in the movies! I woke up my fiancé and we packed up our bags with trembling hands by candlelight. There wasn't a single street light that worked on our way to the hospital. Everything was so unreal. Once we got to the hospital the nurses explained that my water had probably broke due to the drop in barometric pressure with the storm because I was only 1 cm dilated and baby was still really high. I got started on pitocin and every hour I would dilate 1 cm. by 7 cm I was dilating 1 cm every 1/2 hour. I know that every birth is different but omg I could NOT handle the contractions. I chose to get an epidural at only 2 cm dilated. I never had to get another because by the time I started pushing it had just started wearing off and I liked that I was able to feel when to push. The doctor gave me two stitches because I tore my urethra (had to come in a week later to get 6 more put in because the tear was larger than they thought 🙃) but I feel like I got very lucky in the long run. My little girl came into this world weighing 7 pounds 13 ounces and 21 inches long.
