Anal Before Sex

Okay so, I know this is unusual but my boyfriend and I had anal sex before vaginal sex. I felt more comfortable this way because it was a lot less personal and we didn't have to risk me getting pregnant. I also feel like vaginal sex is just so much more special and I wanted to make sure I even liked having sex with him before going all the way. I know it's super weird, but I was wondering if anyone else has done the same thing?
