glucose tolerance

I just had my 1 hour glucose tolerance test in Tuesday and my doctor's office had me come in yesterday to get a glucose meter and everything that goes with it. They are having me monitor my blood sugar for a week, 4 times a day (when I wake up, and an hour after every meal). Has anyone else had their doctor do this? I assumed I would get the 3 hour glucose test if the first came back with bad results, but my doctor is doing something different. Any feedback would be appreciated.
