What should I do??

For the past month or so, I've been getting my period every other week and it sucks. My friends and sisters are telling me to get birthcontrol pills to regulate my cycles but my mom doesn't want me to. I completely understand why because she probably doesn't want me to think that I can have sex whenever like it's no big deal. But being that I'm 16, I'll know when I'm ready or not. I'm okay with taking it and to be quite honest I want to because I'm not really up for having my period up to three times a month. She said she'll call our gynecologist and see what he has to say about it. My sisters are telling her that he's going to say the same thing, they just think she needs to hear it from the actual doctor. Let me know what you think I should do, how I should handle this or if there are any other options to solving this problem. Thanks !!
