Wedding without the wedding?

I have decided that I don't want to have a traditional wedding due to the cost. I want to do a "Bridal Photoshoot" where I get to wear a nice gown and we just do a mock wedding. Afterwards I want to have a wedding celebration party "Reception" my guy isn't big on the whole wedding idea but does want to get married. I think his main frustration would be cost... we will bear the spending. I'm ok with that. What do you ladies think and what are some non traditional ideas you may have?

We had a surprise wedding. Invited all our family and friends over on NYE for a party celebrating our new house and engagement and birthday party. At 9 we sprung it on everyone that it was actually our wedding and got married, legally! My dad was the only one that knew prior to the day that we were getting married because he was the justice of the peace. Even my mom didn't know. It was awesome and we spent next to nothing. People ask us if we regret it and we laugh and say hell no it was the best thing we've ever decided to do. A marriage isn't about a wedding day it's about an entire life together!

Problem is that a majority of the costs with weddings are in the reception. You might end spending the same amount regardless whether you go traditional or not.

My SO proposed last Wednesday. I am 34w4d pregnant. Im getting married in 3wks. I wanted a simple courthouse but at the same time wanted my family there. So we are getting married at my aunts apartment club house(free) she is marrying us(free) uncle is doing pictures(free) potluck style reception. We are supplying chicken drinks and cake. I did get a dress 539 on sale need a strapless bra. I wanted everything dress tux everything under 1000. This was my dad can walk me down the isle my sister is my maid of honor niece is flower girl and I get to marry the love of my life and celebrate it with my family.

We did a small wedding with immediate family only at a banquet hall. Spent about $2k and used the rest of our money for our dream honey moon

I got married at my kitchen table. I paid $50 for my marriage license and $50 for the guy that married us. He came to our house, gave us three pieces of papers for us to sign and boom we were married. I wouldn't have it any other way 😌 do what works for you!

My husband proposed on October 24 2014 we were married in 5 months. Within a month I was already annoyed with my MIL trying to make plans for our wedding. We got married in NH at a little bed and breakfast with just our immediate family and a few close friends. 
   In total our wedding cost $5,000 my Inlaws and my mom helped with some things.

We got married in my parents backyard where my husband and I used to hang out when we were younger. Only invited our closest family and the few people who are like family. My dress was under $100. I told my bridesmaids to not go all out on dresses and let them pick. Our cake was done by a family friend and was $60. We had hot dogs on the grill. I made my own bouquets with fake flowers (husband is allergic) I think our total came to around $250-$300 with everything. I only wish a few more people had cameras to capture everything.
