Irratated by a customer.
So last night I was working 3 hours after my shift was already supposed to be over, and it's 10:30 at night doing a 9 and have worked for 9 and a half hours and just have half an hour left of my shift. I'm tired and I'm pregnant so stomach is hurting and my feet are swollen so they hurt like crazy and I just wasn't in a "I'm going to try and make pointless conversation that your going to forget about mood" so I would ask them how their night was, and if they found everything okay, and for the fresh values card or number. It was three girls and an older guy. Anyways towards the end one of the order the sisters say "great service" or something like that. And she replies back to "its because we're black" and I just wanted to scream in her face right there for saying that. I mean I'm a hormonal pregnant lady that gets irratated by every little thing, plus I hurt I've been making bull shit conversation for almost 10 hours! I didn't say anything to her just because I'm tired and I don't feel like dealing with it. But I'm not okay with being accused of being racist. I get people do get treated bad all the time because it's still a very real issue and maybe they've had this happen before. Just would have liked them to say something to me if they felt like I was treating them poorly, instead of making that Comment.
I don't know of this detail matters or not, I had just remembered. We had fired someome recently because she was racist, for awhile she just wouldn't speak to people of color. She wouldn't even tell them to have a nice day or ask how they are. And her last few months she sent them to different lines. (only reason she got fired was because I went to corporate when I noticed it with my fiancé and a few customers.) so now that I remember this it could be possible that my customer went to that lady's line and had this happen.
Also I've done this for 4 years I work in a grocery store I get stupid crap everyday but none that bothered me this bad. It doesn't anymore now that I think of the discrimination she faces, and how she could have gone through this with the lady I got fired. I just didn't understand and needed to vent. If I could I'd do it all over again and try to make sure they didn't feel the way they did.
