Tornado tips

I live in Australia. We don't have "basements" that underground area in a house we hardly have and we don't have storm shelters that are underground we pretty much have no underground areas the other day there was a tornado. Away from houses and it got me thinking, they say we never get tornados but what if that's just because we never hear about them or see them. I have two kids and I like to be prepared for anything so I'm asking what you do in a situation if a tornado was going to hit? Keeping in mind there is no underground area we can run to what would I do? Where would be a safe place? I know I'm possibly being that "crazy over protective mum" but I think it's good to know these things and to always be prepared for anything
