Old wives tale or truth? Does staring at your sleeping baby wake them/steal away their dreams?

Sometimes I can't help but stare at my baby while she sleeps, when I do she starts wiggling around and I remember what my mom said about staring at babies when they sleep. It freaks me out and I stop doing it... but does it really do anything?
