ex boyfriend is a douche

Ok so a few months back I had a boyfriend and the relationship only lasted two weeks. Before we dated we were really close friends. A week later I found out he broke up with me because he had feelings for my best friend so I got pissed and stopped talking to him. Then 2 weeks ago he texted me and asked about my best friend so I blocked him. Then last night a mutual friend told me that he told everyone that I cheated on him so I told my best friend who's like a sister to me and she bitched him out. Was this the right thing to do?
