Anyone had 'contraction'-like pain with IUD?

Had my IUD fitted (copper) yesterday - definitely a lot less painful than I thought it would be - but in the evening and all of today I've had contraction-like cramps. At least, that's how I think of them like - I've never been pregnant so I wouldn't know for sure! They're very intense for a short amount of time. Any advice from any lovely ladies using IUDs? X

Yes mine causes cramps so bad that it could compare to contraction pain but I guess it's normal

I get them with my  mirena. Your body is literally contracting trying to get rid of the foreign object inside it. Just monitor your strings the next twocweeks and make sure it doesn't go anywhere. The cramps are awful i feel you 😫

My doctor told me that the cramps are contractions. Your body is trying to expel the object in your uterus before it gives up and just accepts this is how it is now.

I completely agree, they happen to me all the time. Short sharp pains shooting up through your pelvis

Warm compresses and Advil!!
It should go away within a week. Your body is starting to adjust. I know I had cramps with the copper for a while. I have the Mirena now though. Good luck!

Very common. Take some ibuprofen and put your legs up a wall. Like lay on your back with butt scooted up to the wall and have your feet go up the wall. It helps with cramps.

It goes away after a few days! Hang in there! Chocolate, heating pad, ibuprofen are your friends!!

I had cramps like this very badly almost constantly for the first two weeks, then most days for about two weeks.  Unfortunately I was told  that's common with the copper iud (they didn't think to warn me of that before I had it inserted, though, so it was prettty scary) If you can feel your strings (or if your doc can at your one month checkup) that's a great sign.  Ibuprofen and a heating pad are going to be your best friends for a little while.  :/

I actually had contraction like cramps monthly before I got my iud and then ever since I got it my period cramps are no longer like contractions. Just pop some ibuprofen.

Yes! I had really bad cramps for a few days.  Hopefully they go away soon!
