FTM Planned C Section Mommas?

I went for my 40wk apt and my dr sent me for a size and position as I still hadn't dilated or softened, mucus plug and water still in tact. My girl is 9lbs give or take. When I went back for my apt this week he said he could induce me but thinks that she is too large to fit though my pelvic bones, and would most likely end in a c section. He offered to get induced or just schedule the c section. So I scheduled it. I just can't see going through labor for what my dr. Believes won't work in the end anyways. All this being said I'm very nervous for the c section on Monday, and wanted to see if there were any other elective c section mommas that could give me some insight? I've heard from alot of emergency c section mommas but the dr. Said planned go a little different because she won't be on her way down the birth canal when we start. Any thoughts, advice, or experiences you can share would be appreciated.

I did not have the same experience however I have friends and family whose babies measured large and it turned out they were not! All in the 7-8 lb range! The doctor can only make an educated guess about your daughter's size. I did have a C-section (unplanned at 33 weeks), and I would kill to be able to have a vaginal delivery this time!! Recovery from a C-section is no joke! But you should do what you feel is best. I personally would probably still try for vaginally if I were in your position :)

I have seen SO many moms be told their baby was too big and then have a 7lb baby. Ultrasound is NOT an accurate way to measure baby at the end of pregnancy. Unless you have gestational diabetes that would make your baby grow larger than normal, you grew a baby you CAN birth. Look up evidence based birth big babies, before you make a big decision the may lead to an unnecessary csection.

First, women get REALLY opinionated and judgemental about csections and I have no idea why. It's really no ones business but yours and your doctors, so don't let someone you don't know who has not gone through YOUR pregnancy and does not have a medical degree sway your decision :) I had a 27 hour labor that ended in emergency csection (he was tiny but stuck under my pelvic bone and sunny side up) After going through a long (rough) labor then having surgery, my recovery was rough. Ultimately I decided on a scheduled csection this time because I personally could not imagine going through all of that again for it to end up in a csection and have another rough recovery (I've heard scheduled csection = better recovery than after a long labor). I have to say, for the first few weeks after birth, I was very sad that it ended in csection and not a vaginal birth. I felt the experience I had imagined was taken away from me, and somewhat felt like a failure that I could not birth my baby like I wanted. Today, I chalk all this up to postpartum hormones. My son and I could've died without surgical intervention but we are perfectly healthy and my vagina is still well intact (just an added bonus). Do what feels right to you. If you decide to be included, just keep an open mind that you may have a csection and it's okay! That's something I never did. I never considered csection the first time around and I think that's why I was in such a shock from it. Let us know how it goes! Little one will be here soon! Good luck!

I've had 2 c-sections. The first was an emergency with twins the second was scheduled (it was early but not emergent). Both were pretty similar. You go in, do all the paperwork, the anesthesiologist comes in and talks about the process and then you get wheeled into the surgical room. They will first get your spinal done, then get you all prepped and then your OB and an assisting OB will come in and cut your baby out. You will then get to give your baby some kisses before getting wheeled into a recovery room, where they monitor you for about an hour (each hospital is a little different). With my first, the twins were born before 36 weeks so they went to NICU for monitoring and with my son, they came and got me because he wanted to eat. My recovery was about the same with them both. Was up and walking the next day and it took a few weeks for my swelling in my feet to go down but other than that it was pretty easy. My experience is that c-section recoveries are actually easier than vaginal (my first pregnant was a vaginal delivery). That's just MY experience though, everyone's experiences are different and so is everyone's pain tolerance levels.

My midwife thought my daughter was going to be at least 9lbs. I had her vaginally a week over due and she was 7lbs15oz. I wouldn't trust their measurements. Personally, id rather try labor first.
