When is it appropriate to start buying stuff?

I know the gender from my panorama test and want to shop but feel weird about it because I suffered a lost this summer at 6 weeks so I know the feeling of getting emotionally involved too quickly. The test came back low risk and all seems 110% healthier this time more symptoms etc. I'm African American but I have Jewish friends that believe nothing should be bought before the baby is born which raised some points for me. I just want to know what the majority believe. I'm not thinking cribs right now but I am thinking a cute shirt or something here and there to make it feel more real. Plus I'm not telling anyone until 19 weeks so I like the idea of my own private celebrating with my husband and thought shopping could help.

I'm starting to buy now and I'm 15 weeks. I don't believe in all that mess. If something is going to happen, someone else will get the items as a baby gift. I'm not trying to sound harsh, but realistic. I don't believe in jinxing a life because I bought things early. I want to be prepared. I've already gotten my breast pump, newborn diapers, and newborn clothes that he will have. Buy away because purchases isn't going to doom your child's life.

I'm African American as well and I don't plan on buying much prior to my baby shower, my family leans to the side more of your Jewish friend. My mom is against putting linen in the crib until the baby is on the way home lol, but the crib and anything else in the nursery will be put together by then. We also just listed our home this week so I don't want stuff that I'm not actually using right in the house

I understand where you are comin from. We bought majority of stuff after i entered my second trimester and we also didn't tell anyone until then as well. When you feel comfortable is when you should do it. Remember though... this is suppose to be an exciting and enjoyable time. I look at it like this. It makes me happy my stresses are down and it's just plain fun. If something happens it's going to happen and it's not in my control. It's in God's hands. One last tip: Everything is returnable as long as you have the receipts. Do what make YOU feel happy hun. It's your baby and your pregnancy so it's your choice. 💗💗🍼🍼👶

I am Jewish but felt the need to be prepared despite traditions. We prepared a nursery and bought cute items. we lost our son at 37 weeks in the hospital due to an umbilical cord accident during delivery. Our family removed everything from our house before we got home but I still have not been able to bring myself to see any of his clothes and i know it will be extremely painful. Nothing makes losing a Baby easier, but I can see where the tradition comes from. Things can be bought after a healthy baby arrives.

We've registered at Target. Anything we want that isn't at Target we've started to buy since receiving our NIPT results. There is a risk but there's always a risk. Even after the baby comes home there will always be risks.

Honestly and I don't wan to freak you out .... I would wait until the baby is born .... I lost my baby at 39 weeks and had to come home to nothing but his things all over ... nobody plans to have their child taken from them... but if you want to do a bit do it just don't over indulge in it ... just my opinion

You should shop when you want to. It's your baby. I personally would be extremely stressed out if I had to rely on other people to set up my nursery while I was in the hospital delivering. (Jewish tradition) I plan to have everything done and set up a month before my due date so I'm not stressing out.

I'm coming up on 15 weeks and we've recently lost our 3yr bulldog to an unknown illness so we decided to start looking at crib/bedroom sets, strollers and stuff to help with the grieving (shopping therapy lol) 
 when it comes down to it I think parents should shop when they are ready if family/friends have a problem don't tell them haha

I say wait till after 24 but that's because we lost our daughter at 16wks and I just can't imagine going through all that again but this time having things to part from as well.

I started buying around 12 weeks. Just little
Things like swaddles, bottle cleaners, bath stuff, a few outfits. Oh and My hospital 💼

I plan on buying a few baby things every week up until the baby arrives.
