Do you approach someone crying at the doctors?

I was sitting at the doctors with my mum discussing things we saw in magazines, when we noticed a lady crying. I instantly wanted to sit with her and ask her if she's ok, but I stopped. Thinking maybe I shouldn't because I'm at the doctors. My mum couldn't do nothing, so mum asked if she wanted a glass of water and the lady said yes. Mum didn't know what to say, but she was thinking 'I'll cry with you' bless my mum is sweetheart. After the lady calmed down, we starting talking about what we saw in the magazines, again she started crying. My mum says "Aw darling" but I don't think the lady noticed. We started praying for her, but not out loud. Then the ladies name got called. I kinda wish I said something now. Would you approach someone crying at the doctors? Would you approach someone crying in public?

Yep. You don't have to ask her what's wrong but she might have just needed to know that someone cared, maybe she doesn't have any family who would be there for her. Small acts of kindness like that can be the difference between life and death when people are down.

I wouldn't. Because I've been that woman 2 times. 
The day a 21 year old finds out she has cancerous cells. I was too young to hear those words. 
The day I was told I would miscarry "any day now".  I was inconsolable. DH was at work not knowing that appointment would make that kind of turn. 
Both instances, I felt so alone and that's what I needed to be to gather myself. 
I guess if someone would have handed me a tissue and said, "if you need anything, I'm over there"  I would have been fine with it, but I would have hated having a stranger try to council me.

I mean I would, but I'm a nurse so if you're crying in my office, I kinda need to know why. 🤗

I usually just be really nice to them but I tend not to pry as it could be a really private thing

Some lady was bawling out in tears and everyone kept bumping past her. 
I approached her and it took her a while to stop crying but she was lost and she needed help finding the ferry.
I felt so bad I had to walk her there 😩 but we were like 2 blocks away and it looked like she wasn't bout to listen to any directions I gave her.

No matter the setting I do the same thing if I'm compelled to speak to someone. I ASK them, "do you need any help?" "Are you ok?" "Do you want me to sit with you?" "Is there anyone you want me to contact?" "Are you ok with me praying for you?" It gives them an opportunity to let you know what they need.

Nope, not my business. I know in situations like that some people don't want others company because I'm the same way. I'd rather be left alone...

I would. Definitely. Knowing someone, even a stranger, cares can make you feel so much better.

I think too many people would walk past this woman thinking "not my business; I'm not getting involved". But if a person is hurt enough to cry in public, giving them some human contact and compassion isn't over stepping or out of hand. Simply offering a glass is just the act of human kindness that person needs. If you get rejected, so what? You just keep it pushing but to not even offer or act like you don't see the person is something we as people should change. My mother is the type of person that wouldn't even hesitate to go see about someone in distress and she'd pray right there with them if they allow it. I've never seen a single person push her away. They usually accept her assistance and in the end thank her. She's like a magnet for situations like this.

Nope. I'm too busy in my own head with my own issues. I wouldn't appreciate being on the receiving end either because I'm too strong inside to let any type of emotion out like that.
