Should voting in presidential elections be mandatory in the USA?

In my husbands country, voting is mandatory (if you don't you can't get your cedula (like a license and ID of sorts) until u pay a fine). Voter turn out of pathetic in America. Do u think this is a good idea?

I think if you make voting mandatory,  you're just going to have a bunch of people filling in any bubble on the ballot just to avoid a fine. It would very much sway the vote for the people who actually take voting serious

Mandatory voting results in donkey voting and a great deal of inconvenience. If someone doesn't want to participate then they shouldn't be forced to. The underlying principle of democracy is that the government should serve the individual not the other way around. It does not serve the needs of the individual if you force them to vote when they would rather not get involved with the process of government or would rather get involved in a different way,

No. I don't vote  mainly because I have no idea who to vote for. I don't pay attention to all the political stuff and find it really boring. So why would I go and just pick someone just to say I voted

It's democracy - we're not forced to do it. Yes, it's our civil duty to our country. But no, you can't force to make a decision especially if they are completely undecided. I'd prefer for someone undecided to not vote rather than just make a random choice so they can get their license or ID.

Everyone should have the right to CHOOSE whether they vote or not. It shouldn't be mandatory, it's up to them if they use it or not
