attention American friends!

Iam attending a wedding in April in Arizona. Do bars in the states ask for your passport along with your id or just your id? I wouldn't wanna carry around my passport if I'm going out. Also my friend that is coming is underageif she is dumb enough to get a fake id how do the bars work in the USA?
