belly button piercing

A couple of months ago I got my belly button pierced but i winded up taking it out because it was super red and swollen, and it hurt so bad when I slept, and sad down then it started pussing when I cleaned it...it eventually burned fm skin like literally turned my belly button purple and black...I really miss it though. Could it have been a reaction to the metal? Or an infection? Or maybe it wasn't done right? I really want to get it again..
