late period/mini pill

Okay so Im on the second month of the mini pill and my period is 6 days late but my periods have always been irregular and my doctor said that the mini pill tends to make your period irregular too and its even common to not have a period at all since your body thinks your pregnant. I read online that if I dont get one in 45 days then I should take a test but I just wanted some advice from real people who may have experienced this, so any advice is much appreciated. thanks <3
