Any insurance gurus??

Question

Well my husbands company got bought out, for the last 8 years we've had great coverage through united health. Now they are doing away with united and we have two options. An HRA through Cigna or Anthem with a moderate deductible but large (2xs what we were paying this year) monthly premium. Or an HSA. That seems like really shitty plan you pay for mostly everything expect well visits and the deductible is like 7,000 for the family (our was only 2,500) this year.  I'm so confused, anyone have any input or experience on either one??? I feel like I need a degree to understand these options...

I work for a healthcare company and mt girlfriend works for united.  We both have hsa plans. You pay low monthly rate and tes, you pay put of pocket for expenses until you hit the deductible and then there's an out of pocket max per person, per family per year. If you are a reasonably healthy person this is usually the route to go. Doing hsa lowers your taxable income plus you use that money for healthcare costs.

We are self employed, so our options are pretty awful no matter which way you slice it.. We went with Liberty Healthshare, one of the penalty exempt "non insurance" options. It's not perfect, but hard to tell if the glitches we experience are due to exponential growth in the last 2 yrs, or something else. Definitely no worse than the insurance carriers we've had: United Health Care, Blue Cross, Covenant... And MUCH more affordable. We pay $400/mo. for a family (no matter how many kids), and have a $1500 annual amount we must meet in combined shareable bills before LHS will share the rest at 100 % up to 1 million per incident. We also get one free wellness visit per year.

I'm pregnant, and we will definitely meet our AUA, and so far they are sharing the bills as promised. I even get to see any provider I choose-- no network.

Calculate what you'll pay for insurance deductibles/coinsurance and what you'll end up paying for your share for each plan, and then compare it to the monthly premiums for the year.  In our case, it was worth it to pay a higher monthly premium to get better coverage because we'd end up paying more in the end for the lower coverage and lower premiums due to my pregnancy. If I wasn't pregnant we'd opt for the less coverage for less monthly premium to just cover us for emergency, but with the baby coming and knowing a big hospital bill was coming,  it was worth it to have better coverage that year.  But if you already have a dr and hospital, make sure they take the plan you're considering, otherwise you may end up having to switch if they don't take your new plan.

I had Cigna and I felt like it was pretty good. But I didn't really have to worry about it because I was triple insured. But I liked it. But I've heard it's really bad now, so it may have changed since since I had it.

I worked with insurance companies before, and they're all so obnoxious to deal with. I was on anthem, and I really liked anthem.
