Who do you think donates more?

Compared to what they have?

For example a poor person could donate a $5 meal to a homeless person and have to go without food for a day.

Whereas a rich person could donate a $50 meal and not think twice about it.

Just for my curiosity.

The rich are rich for a reason, they don't give away money if they'll notice it's gone. I also find there is a feeling of 'it's my money, I earnt it, why should I share it?' There is enough money out there for nobody to live in poverty, it's just not evenly distributed.

I think the poor know how it feels to be poor, and are more willing to help people get back on their feet.

I've never met a generous rich person. All the ones I've met are selfish and rude.

I work in a small, local nonprofit and while we do occasionally receive large gifts from wealthier people in our community, by far, the most donations come from middle class people.

What I've noticed is that wealthier people tend to give more (although a smaller percentage of their overall wealth). They also tend to use formalized non profits more.

Lower income people may give a lower dollar amount, but a greater percentage, and tend to give less formally.

What really gets me is successful people who say some version of, "I struggled and now am doing well, so I'm not going to help anyone else".

If a poor person gives $5 it may be their last $5 they selflessly gave if a rich person gives $50 they gave but it's not the same sacrifice

Poor people give the most because they know what it's like. Then rich people do it for show and finally, middle class gives the least because they're afraid of giving too much and not having enough for their family

When you give 5 as a poor person that may seem like a greater sacrifice but people often forget the amount of work that goes behind wealth. Most rich people work reasonably hard (they spend many years studying, then they do grueling internships at law firms and what not, spend countless hours on the torture that is networking). 50 can reaper sent an hour of work just the same as a fiver, you shouldn't undervalue that time just because it can be easily afforded to give away.

In my experience, it's poor or middle class. My friend and her family don't have a lot of money and can't afford much, but if they know someone that is struggling, they'll offer to help as much as they can. I needed $60 to pay off the rest of a speeding ticket and was freaking out and her mom offered to lend me the money without giving it a second thought. My parents don't STRUGGLE but they also don't have a lot of money, but if someone needs a place to stay, they'll offer their couch to them. I can't count how many times my older sister had a friend that needed a place to stay for a few nights and my parents didn't hesitate to let them stay with us
