Metformin

Any ladies taken metformin with good results? I've taken it for two weeks and it caused me have a period a week after taking it. I have the usual stomach issues too but I plan on taking It twice a day starting tomorrow( doctor told me twice a day but only once until body gets a bit more used to it). I'm a bit nervous about getting sick from it but I hear it's worth it because it can help regulate periods, with getting pregnant, and even lose weight.
