Missed period, got heavy period the next month?

Ive always had a normal period, but for some reason, I missed it in September, and had a heavy period in October. My fiance and I use the pullout method and I'm careful not to have sex during a fertile window. But my mood has been swinging like crazy. I have severe anxiety so I've always blamed that, but I can't figure out the missed period.
