Fuckboy or forreal

Okay so I met this guy in April. He's a friend of my sister's ex boyfriend type thing. He is so fucking attractive to me. He is a ginger with a beard and we have been talking on and off since then. We have hung out and had sex quite a few times and one time he looked me dead in the eyes and told me he liked me. After that he got super flaky and didn't really respond. So lately we have just been talking to hookup or whatever. But last night we hung out and I got the courage to ask him what was up. I asked him if he was sleeping around and he said no. I asked him why he was a fuckboy to which he responded that he doesn't think he is. Then I asked him about liking me and he says he does and he likes hanging out with me but also said that he's an asshole and doesn't know how to not be like that. I said don't say those things unless you mean them because I get all weird and in my feels. I said that I would still sleep with him if that's all he wanted and for him to not say stuff about liking me unless he actually does. He said he would try to keep in touch more. Do you guys think he is just a fuckboy and I should run or he's just scared to be involved with me like that?
