Doctor wants to strip membranes @39 weeks is that a normal thing to be done?

I'm 3 1/2 cm dilated now and 38+3 weeks, I feel great honestly. Super mild contractions here and there throughout the day but nothing consistent. She checked my cervix around 3:30pm, its now almost 9pm and I've started spotting lightly is this also normal??

Usually they give you a heads up that checking your cervix can cause cramping and spotting!  Yes it's normal! And having your membrane sweep is normal and many women chose to do it!

It is a normal procedure but unless there is a medical reason to try to start labour there is actually no need to strip the membranes. It's an intervention and it is a way to start labour but there is nothing wrong with being 40, 41, or 42 weeks! It's sort of just something doctors do when you are close to your "due date". There is no danger to your baby to go past 40 weeks. It's totally up to you and you can refuse to have it done. Again, I'm guessing since you said you feel great that there is no medical concern behind this.
