Has anyone ever dated their best friend?

Just wondering.. thinking about giving my best guy friend a chance after I pick myself up after this horrible breakup... I've always felt something, I just never gave it an actual chance. Has anyone ever dated their close or best guy friend? If so what happened?

My best friend is my high school boyfriend!! Haha, sometimes people wonder into your life as one thing and it turns into something better.
 
I'd be cautious about starting something with your best friend. Very few relationships work out and you'd hate to loose your best friend.

I had a best guy friend back in middle-high school he was there for me through a bad break up as well and we eventually started liking each other more than just friends. Well we ended up sort of dating and we went to homecoming together and had a horrible night thanks to his ex. So we fought for like a week and then made up and he asked me out!! I was over the moon and thought i was so in love. We were together for a year, almost 2 but things got bad and I ended up falling out of love with him because of it and we never talked since. So honestly I think it could go either way. I think my biggest problem was I fell for him because he was there at a time I was vulnerable and sad. I think if I wasn't and I didn't get closer to him then we would still be friends today.

When I did in high school the relationship lasted a year and 2 months. That was my record until I got into my 20s. I had several guy friends I had friend zoned through my teen age life. And I can honestly say if I'd met my husband in high school I would have friend zoned him too because I was shallow and thought I knew what I wanted.
Give him a chance, yes, but don't jump into it too quickly or he may feel like the rebound guy which is never a good place to start.
Start out small, let your relationship go where it is intended and not force it. Do what feels natural. If it's meant to be then it will blossom as date intended.

I did twice... one time with my best friend and it ended bad.
after some time I decided to give it a try with another friend I wasn't too close with, but I knew him for a year or 2... he liked me for a very long time before I was willing to give it a try (because of this bad experience in the past) but we're still together, almost 7,5 years now 😊
