late tongue tie discovery
After a really helpful consultation with a lactation consultant I'm off to get my little girl assessed for a a very likely tongue tie today. She is 5 months on Friday and we have been struggling with weight gain since birth to the point where I'm supplementing her with formula to make sure she gains a bit. I've felt awful about not being able to nourish my baby and not having enough milk for her to grow properly but now it turns out it might all stem from a not super obvious tongue tie. It would explain a few things like how she gags on all pacifiers except the preemie ones and how she never really actually sticks out her tongue. We will have some work ahead of us to correct her positioning on the breast and her posture once it is all fixed but we will hopefully see an improvement. I'm super happy that we seem to have worked out what is wrong but am slightly annoyed that the GP didn't pick this up at her 6 week check up when she had dropped from the 15th percentile to the 3rd. We could have avoided a few months of struggle and formula supplementing. Fingers crossed all goes well today.
