water breaking?

So yesterday I had my 38 week apt. My doctor told me that she doesn't want me to go to the hospital until my contractions are 3 minutes apart. Not 4 or 5 minutes, only 3. Or they will send me home. Ok fine. So then I asked what if my water breaks but contractions don't come. She told me to stay home also until I have intense contractions that are 3 mins apart. Does this sound right? I always was under the impression that you go to the hospital no matter what when ur water breaks.

Different people: gynologist, midwife, people at the hospital,.. all told me to come no matter what when my water broke. I was glad that when my water broke I was very close to the hospital, because less then an hour after that my baby was born!

My dr told me if my water breaks or I have more than 4 contractions in an hour to go in. I am almost an hour away from the hospital. More if it's rush hour. I would be screwed if I waited till they were 3 minutes apart.

Sounds right to me! And trust me it's better at home then in the uncomfortable hospital bed and machines hooked up to ya.  Lots of women freak out and rush to the hospital only to wait a few more hours and uncomfortable!

Some doctors are different. I don't have to go to the hospital right away after my water breaks.

I don't think so. when I was pregnant I was told every appointment to  come in if my water broke or if I have consistent contractions for more than an hour

Most doctors now will give you a window of time... I think it's 24-36 hours if your water breaks... if contractions haven't started during that window, they have you come in and start antibiotics and usually an induction process of some sort. My doctor said for me to stay home until I cannot bear the pain anymore or my contractions get under 5 minutes apart... we live 20 minutes away from the hospital.

Definitely go in if your water breaks. Better to get checked out and sent home healthy than to have a complication at home. When my water broke, my baby was born within three hours. My Dr said that is a typical time line for a healthy mom and baby with a water break.

With my first pregnancy my water didn't break until I was at the hospital waiting for someone to check to see how far along I was... I was 8cm dilated and she was coming.

If I would have waited for my water to break at home I would have had her at home.

I also had back labor and didn't initially realize I was in labor because I've always had back pain.
