Relationship help?

So, John and I have been together for 6 years in January. We're 20 and 21. We live togeter, share a car, have a dog and cat together too.

He just recently tried to break up with me, and then we got back together again. But today he told me that he doesn't know if he'll love me for forever and that he just wants to take our relationship day by day. He says he loves me right now, and he wants to be with me right now, but he can't promise forever even if we did get married.

What do I do with this? I know for a fact that I DO want to spend the rest of my life with him and I can't see a future with anyone else.

He is using "a day by say" as an excuse so in the future when he leaves you. You won't be surprised. Honestly if someone you're dating can't see a future with you then it isn't really worth it.

He doesn't want to be in the relationship. Men often say these kind of things when they don't have the courage to end it properly.

When he tried to end it with you what happened? Did you ask him to stay and try to work on it?

To me it sounds like he's using you as his safety net. He doesn't want to be alone and likes having sex easily available but as soon as something better comes along he'll leave you. And the cycle will repeat unless you break it.

You're so young. I know a few couples who got together young, dated around a little and then ended up together. Or there are those who ended up with someone else.
I think you both need to be young and date and experience things. Cliche, but let him go, if he comes back....

I am sorry but it sounds like he isn't interested in staying with you for life... 😔 It is difficult to maintain a relationship that begins so early on and continues through the vital years where you discover who you are as an individual separate from someone else... It doesn't sound like he wants to stay with you. It sounds to me like he is already done... I wish you the best of luck!
