Breastfeeding in secret?!?

So my friend (whom I thought was progressive), told me that I should be breastfeeding in a private room when people are around, especially her boyfriend. She said she wouldn't want her boyfriend to be thinking about my breast, and that if I make people uncomfortable I should take it upon myself to leave the room to breastfeed. She also believes women should not be granted the right to pump at work in public, and should just pump in a bathroom. I was completely offended! Just to be clear, I am always covered when breastfeeding, I do believe in modesty for myself (everyone can make their own choice). However I do not feel being sent to a bedroom for 30-40 mins while I feed my child is something i should have to do. Thoughts?

No. that's ridiculous. Babies need to eat when they are hungry, wherever they are. 
Feeding a baby isn't inappropriate. 
I've always wondered how you are even supposed to put that into practice when you have more than one child. I have 4. Do I drag them all to a bathroom so some hypothetical person doesn't have to see a baby eat? Silly. 
Feeding a baby is never inappropriate or offensive. Feed away!!

my father in law and brother in law are super conservative pastors. never in either of their homes has there even been a hint of discomfort about me nursing. why? because newsflash boobs are for babies. do I particularly want either of them to see my nipple? no, it's not something I want. guess what - they look me in the eyes not the boobs. so hard for them to do I'm sure <sarcasm >.  guess what my BILs kids think I'm doing? feeding a baby. guess what I'm not going to do for 45 minutes every 2 to 3 hours. sit alone in a room. ffs. you give up your body for 9 months, you literally rip yourself a new one getting baby out, you maybe or maybe not change your body forever, you don't sleep for who knows how long, you produce the perfect product to sustain your babys life, you change nappies and barf and pee, you spend 24 hours a day dedicate to this person....  but no,  you selfish woman do that nasty stuff in private. on top of all these sacrifices, every 2 hours spend an hour alone because no one wants to see your nipple and we can't help but stare and it's your fault. yeah,  right. sure. thanks but no thanks.  I have to watch grown ass men slobber down burgers, slurp up bbq sauce fingers, pick onion from their teeth, burp, chew with open mouths...  but I can't feed my baby? you're just used to seeing adults eat but I promise if you stare at them, it's gross. my baby goes Mmmmm num num num coo sigh suckle. but a nipple, dear God how dare you. don't like it don't look - rules for life people.

I have done both, stayed in rooms with a cover, if it's close family and just a few people. At a large family party, I went into another room.  With very close relatives, I don't use a cover. I also bring bottles to family parties on occasion.
She just doesn't get it.  But I personally probably wouldn't feel comfortable doing it under a cover with my friend's bf in the room. However, that doesn't give her the right to ask you to leave!

What a jerk!!! In my case, I HAVE to feed my little fella alone in a separate room--he gets way too distracted and absolutely will not nurse. My husband would love to sit with us but we can't even do that. My little guy gets too preoccupied with him to focus on eating.🙄 That said, I don't think others should be forced into this unless it is their preference (tbh he wasn't as easily distracted the first couple of months but I claimed modesty to get away from annoying visitors 😜). And why does anyone ever suggest pumping in a bathroom??? Seriously wtf???

If im in someone else's house I will move to a private place out of respect for the owners unless they are ok with me feeding in front of them. Other than that I cover to latch my son then I uncover I don't like the thought of him breathing in CO2.

Yes at someone else's house I'd try to respect their wishes. But at my house heck no. And in public I try to find a quiet corner or use a light cover for at least partial coverage.
