Grandmother rights??? :/

So this is quite personal for me but I do need a little advice. I won't go into detail simply because of how person it is.

Anyway. My mother was apart of sexual abuse towards myself and my sister. It all happened under the age of 16. It is currently under investigation (which another reason I can't go into detail) she also has had my sister taken away from her for forcing her into something. There was proof which unfortunately only lead to the child welfare being involved.

Point being, my "mother" and I don't talk. She knows I am pregnant and I have refused all rights having anything to do with the pregnancy or the child's life just as any other parent or parent to be should and would.

She has stated on numerous occasions that she will be taking me to court for grandparent rights. Is it possible at all that she could win? I am reasonably worried and if anyone has any advice I would appreciate it.

No it is not. Especially with the charges against her.

Grandparents rights do exist in some states and under certain conditions. It is generally limited to situations where the child does know and love their grandparent, but the parents stops allowing previously allowed visits. Then in some cases, the grandparents may have rights.

In your case, no. I'd tell her you've consulted an attorney and she doesn't qualify for grandparents right. I'd change my phone number, and I'd stop speaking to her all together. You do not need that person in your life. Pursue the charges but eliminate all contact otherwise.

Sorry for what you've been through. My husband and I were both physically abused as children and emotionally abused (not sexually). We have 3 children, a happy marriage, and have broken the cycle of abuse. You can too. Congrats on your pregnancy. Be the mother she never was

If your mother is under investigation for sexual abuses and the state has records of everything, I can't see how she would win any kind of rights towards your child! I feel she's just trying to scare you. If she couldn't keep you and your sister safe, no judge would allow her alone time with your child. Be strong and tell her she can try to scare you as much as she wants but this is your child and no one has a right to take you to court!

Check with what kind of rights grandparents have in the U.K.
Also see if there is a lawyer that will give a free consult about that as well. I would imagine with her background and allegations she would have zero rights if the U.K. Does grandparent rights.

If she's being investigated and all that stuff happened...no way she won't win a case. There's no such thing as grandmother rights. Only mother and father. My daughter's real dad's mom and aunt tried to get full custody but they couldnt. It's not their child

Grandparent rights are really hard when the actuall parents are involved. Plus with the things she is being investigated for i doubt she will get far. If anything you can always look into filing for a restraining order or some kind of order of protection against her so she cant come around you or your baby.

In my state grandparents can only petition for visitation if there has been a divorce, death of a parent or a custody agreement. They can't just petition because you aren't letting them see the child, there has to be proof it's in the child's interest.

I highly doubt they would do that if anything they would request it be supervised visits but i doubt they would even do that after what she did if get a restraining order then she can't be near you or your baby
