Went in for an ultrasound, left with a baby
Hey guys! My baby is currently 7 weeks old and I'm just getting around to submitting my story. I should do it now before I completely forget it lol. So here goes. It was Monday, September 26 and it was my due date. Prior to that my doctor had briefly discussed inducing me on Thursday the 29th due to gestational diabetes, but we hadn't put a plan in motion yet. She told me to come in on the 26th for one last ultrasound and we would plan things out from there. So we went i for the ultrasound and the baby was not practicing her breathing. So the doctor on-call told me come to the hospital asap for a non-stress test. My boyfriend and I headed to the hospital and I was monitored for about 2 hours when the doctor came in and said she was going to admit me. So we started to get nervous because we were expecting to be induced on Thursday so we were totally unprepared, but we just happened to put the hospital bag in the car that same day. I actually cried because I was so nervous but I got over the fear quickly. Around 8pm I was given a pill to begin the softening of the cervix and they checked me 12 hours later which was when they started the pitocin. Overnight I was given pain meds through my IV which made me feel drunk and sleepy lol. Once the pitocin started I was feeling fine until the super strong contractions kicked in. I was planning an epidural-free delivery but I couldn't handle the pain and I was afraid of it getting worse so I asked for the drugs. Once I got the epidural I felt absolutely nothing from the waist down. My family kept poking my legs like "wow you really can't feel this?" and i'm like "nope, nothing at all" lol it was great. It took the entire day for me to dilate to 10cm, but the nurse said there was still a little lip of my cervix on the baby's head so i had to wait about 4 more hours for that to wear away. At that point she had me practice pushing, which was hard because I was numb. So she would leave and I kept calling her to come back so I could try again. I probably called her 10 times lol but there was little progress. So she gave me a peanut which is like a peanut-shaped yoga ball and you put one leg over it to open everything up. At that point I got this overwhelming urge to push and it was like baby was pushing her way out without me doing anything. When I reached down I could literally feel her head and that was the weirdest feeling ever! The nurse called the doctor and it was time to push for real. I reached down again and the top of her head was sticking out of me now. That was crazy! Once the doctor was ready I pushed three more times and she was out! The doctor was like "wow you're a good pusher" but I felt like I was just doing what came naturally to me. It was like nature took over me or something lol. My epidural never wore off so I never felt any pain but I did feel the stretching. I couldn't even see when the baby actually came out, it was like all of a sudden she was being put on my chest and they were telling my boyfriend to cut the cord. She never cried, she was so quiet and calm and she looked me directly in the eye as she laid on me. I will never forget what that moment felt like. I did have a 2nd degree tear but I've been healing well. After I was stitched up the nurse asked me if I was prepared to stand up and I said yes because I could feel my legs now. As she helped me off the bed I literally dropped to the floor because my legs were weaker than I thought! Lucky for me she had a good grip on me so I didn't get hurt but it was just so unexpected it scared the crap out of my family but I was fine. Overall I had a wonderful experience and all of my fears about giving birth never came true. I actually enjoyed it a lot, it was so calm and easy for me. I know I'm lucky. After 32 hours of labor I had my baby girl in my arms.
