pumping at hospital?

Hello! I'm going to be a FTM very soon and I was wondering when you are at the hospital do they teach you the basics of breastfeedimg? What about if I bring my pump, will I get some tips on that?

Also, with the pumps, do you pump from only one breast or do you pump both breasts at the same time? I read somewhere that with breastfeeding (not pumping) you switch breasts each feeding session.

Any help would be appreciated!!

Have you taken a tour of your hospital yet? It varies by hospital unfortunately. Most hospitals do have a laction specialist but how much time they spend with you varies by hospital. Some even require you to request seeing them and their visit could be a real quick in and out. So that's something I would let them know your interested in when you register. How often , when and both or single breast really vary by each individual. It's a learning process to see what what works best with your milk supply. Some women pump a single breast while their baby feeds on the other . Some also pump both right after each feeding and are able to build up a great milk stash. Than some try to sneak a pumping season in between feedings.
