ex boyfriend wants to get back together

My ex boyfriend who has also been on and off friends since we broke up six years ago sent me flowers for my birthday two days ago. Now he wants to get back together. I care about this person a lot. But I'm hesitant because I feel like we force the relationship every time. I don't want that. And I don't think we get along very well. But he's determined to convince me. I just don't really know what to do.
