To stick with tradition or go against?

My husband is French, and his family has a tradition that the eldest girl is named Mirielle (pronounced Meer-ay)I'm ok with that, and would love to stick with it however we live in America and who in the world is going to know it's pronounced like that?! It's a beautiful name, and I love what it means to them and I would live to name my daughter that if we lived in France but we don't soooo I'm a bit bummed. I have a French name myself and nobody knows how to pronounce it and its a bit depressing at times. I don't want to break my husband's heart because he is so excited and so is his sister, mother and grandmother. I'm so torn on what to do.

Don't change your tradition to make other people feel more "comfortable". 
It's a beautiful name and people will learn how to pronounce it correctly. 
Name your daughter or son whatever you want but don't let anything as simple as mispronunciation and the comfort of other people change your mind.

I would make it a middle name... 
that way their tradition is being fulfilled, but strangers won't have to struggle with saying it every day. I do think that it's beautiful though- I'm all for unique!

That's such a beautiful name! I love unique names so I say why not. Who cares if it's hard for people in the US to pronounce?

Coming from someone with a unique name: I have always loved having a name that was different. Sure, substitute teachers never said it right when they called roll and I sometimes had to repeat it a few times when I met new people. But I have always enjoyed being different 😜 
You could have it be her first name and then when she gets older she could choose to go by her middle name if it is too difficult for teachers/classmates/etc

Consider what the name will mean to her both as a child and an adult.

This name might be great once she grows up... even if she doesn't like it while young.

You could give her an easier middle name and call her by that until she can appreciate  her real name.

My name is French and Im not from France, nor do I live in France. I don't mind it now, but growing up I hated my name because Nobody knew how to say it properly. And it's not even that hard! It is a beautiful name and I get where you are coming from but maybe you should talk to your husband about how you feel x
