Baby shower question

I was thinking of putting my registry up for people to see since it's around the holidays and things are on sale but I know my baby shower details aren't finished. Is that something smart to do or should I wait until my baby shower is set in stone and put on invitations? FYI my baby shower is jan. 21st so most people would have spent all their money on Christmas stuff and New Years so what would be the smart choice cause I really want to put the link up now so my friends and family whether they are coming to the shower or not can  get something and have it sent to my house! Please help!!!!
