labor story! it's a long one!
My due date was december 27th , Monday the 19th at 2:30 am I woke up to use the bathroom. Laid back down and started having these weird gasy, queefing kinda incidents. I thought nothing of it so tried to go back to sleep. About 30 minutes later they still continuted and all of a sudden I felt pressure and a gush of fluid. I jumped up and yup my water broke! I call my doctor and she tells me to make my way down to the hospital. (Ofcourse i wasent prepared) so I started packing a hospital bag. Got to the hospital and sat in triage labor and delivery for 2 hours until someone finally checked me. I was 1cm and about 50% effaced. Since my water ruptured my doctor did not want me going home, and decided to admit me. From 4:00 am to 5:00 pm i sat in triage waiting for a delivery room! My contractions were very mild coming about every 8 minutes. The plan was to get me in a delivery room start me on cervidil and see where it goes from there. I Finally got into a labor room, was rechecked and I only progressed to 1 1/2 cm after all those hours. After reviewing my contractions the nurse realized the babies heart rate was dropping a lot ever time the contraction was strong. She informed my dr and they decided to hold off on the cervidil because they didn't want the decelerations to continue. They suspected a cord compression was the reason. So now it's been about 16 hours in the hospital, no meds, and no progress. I decided to close my eyes and rest. After about an hour nap I woke up to stronger contractions, was checked and was now 4cm dilated. They decided to start pitocin, but the same issue occurred with the decels. So The monitoring continued and I was still not on any meds. Contractions were getting bad and I decided to get an epidural. Which was the best decision of my life!!! Yes it was painful but the outcome oh my god! It also helped me finally get some real sleep! The dr then decided to start the pitocin at a very very low rate just to get things moving because it was now about 1:00 am and my waters been ruptured for almost 22 hours. I fell asleep and woke up to contractions occurring about every minute around 3:00 am. Even with the epidural I still felt the pressure so I knew something was up. Within 2 hours I progressed from 4 to 10 cm and was 100% effaced! By the time my doctor arrived and they prepared the room for delivery, I pushed for about 10 minutes, and as she slowly made her way out, with the umbilical cord wrapped was wrapped around her neck 2 times. They snipped it open and pulled her right out! She stared crying immediately and they laid her right on my chest for a nice skin to skin interaction. After a few stitches and almost 25 hours of labor our little Darla Jean weighing 5 pounds 10 ounces and 19 inches made her appearance!
